Philo Bowen, longtime resident of Throckmorton, Texas passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Seymour Rehab and Healthcare in Seymour. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel in Throckmorton with Rev. Jay Gage officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Wednesday evening, October 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 107 North Austin in Throckmorton.

Philo was born April 3, 1920, in Throckmorton County, Texas to Nellie Mae (Smith) and Elbert Bruton. She married Garland Lee Bowen on June 19, 1942. Philo was born and raised in Throckmorton, Texas, moved to Vernon in 1942, and later returned to Throckmorton in 1988. From 1942 to 1976, she was a bookkeeper at FHA in Vernon, Texas. Philo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Nellie Bruton; husband, Garland Lee Bowen; and brother, Clifton Bruton.

Philo is survived by her brother, Wayne Bruton of Fort Worth, Texas; niece, Cindy Emerson of Norman, Oklahoma; nephew, Dewey Bruton of Norman, Oklahoma; and cousin, Treva Wilson of Arlington, Texas.
