R.A. was born May 10, 1928, in Throckmorton to Allie (McNutt) and Earnest Lee Glenn. He holds true the tradition and values of the Texas Cowboy. R.A.'s strong work ethic began at a very early age where he proudly farmed and ranched until retiring in 1987. He accidentally stumbled across his creative talent when he molded an old bed rail into spurs for his grandchildren. Over the years, he transitioned and polished his diverse set of skills to mature his unique style of molding metal into decorative and functional wester wear.
By word of mouth, R.A. built a loyal customer base and had sent his work to almost every state in America as well as the countries of Australia, Brazil and Saudi Arabia. R.A.'s work has also been featured in several books. Many Texas ranch hands are proud to claim they only wear and use R.A.'s craftsmanship. In addition, world champion calf-ropers, bull riders and rodeo professionals respectively display and put to test his western wear.
In the later years, R.A. refined his product offering to include sterling silver jewelry. Each item leaving R.A.'s shop is branded with R.A.G. Those fortunate enough to receive a piece of R.A.'s metal work surely noticed the authentic and customized approach his hands have taken to create and style each piece.
R.A. is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Glenn; daughter, Annette Glenn Bird; parents, Allie and Earnest Glenn; sister, Jeanette Jennings; and brother, Louie Glenn.
He will be missed by many, but those close to his heart are his wife, Janie of Seymour; grandchildren, Biggs Bird and wife Jami of Fort Worth, and Mandy Phalen and husband Mark of Frisco; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Chase Bird, and Olivia and Luke Phalen; 2 sisters, JoAnn Scarlett of Arlington, and Lavonne Huston of Throckmorton.
Serving as pallbearers for R.A. are Biggs Bird, Mark Phalen, David Scarlett, Harold Glenn Jennings, Logan Scarlett, and Donnie Clark.
