Reginald Malloy Nichols

February 11, 1936 — February 26, 2014

Reginald Malloy Nichols known as "Reg" or "Nick" went home to be with His Lord and Savior on February 26, 2014. He fought a 10 year battle with colon cancer.

He was born on February 11, 1936, to Thomas and Faye Bryant Nichols. He was raised in Throckmorton, Texas, graduating from high school there in 1954. He excelled in playing football for the Greyhounds throughout high school.

He joined the army in 1954 and trained to be a medic. He was stationed in Goeppingen Germany and was honorably discharged in 1956. He moved to Tyler, TX to attend Tyler Junior College. He played football under Coach Wagstaff. He married Charlene Ross on August 29, 1959. They had four children: Mike Nichols of Mexia, TX, Kurt Nichols of Cisco, TX, John Nichols of Mexia TX, and Shannon Rademacher of Houston, TX.

He received his BA in English from North Texas State, and a Masters in Literature from Texas A&M Commerce. He spent most of his career teaching and coaching football and track at Moore Jr. High in Tyler from 1967 to 1993. He then began to pursue his favorite hobby of dancing. He danced in many different ballrooms across the United States. He also worked as a "dance host" on cruise ships. We like to say he danced his way across the world as he traveled to numerous destinations. He especially enjoyed working for the Cunard line on the QE2 crossing the Atlantic.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Creth Nichols. He is survived by his special friend Dorothy King Kayser, two brothers Dwight and Edmund Nichols; sister Karen Nobles; his four children; grandchildren Claire Nichols, Ross Nichols, Ali Nichols, Joe Nichols, Sarah Rademacher, Rachel Nichols; many nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends.

Memorial Service at First Baptist Church of Throckmorton, TX and burial with military honors will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Throckmorton.

In lieu of flowers, Reginald would be honored with a donation to Hospice Care of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701; WASP Museum in Sweetwater, TX (Women Air force Service Pilots); or a charity of your choice.
