Renella Watson, 75, a long-time resident of Knox City, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Knox City. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm., Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the funeral home, 210 N. Ave. A., Knox City, TX, 79529.
Renella was born April 8, 1941 in Knox City, to Ethel (Reeves) and Herschel Mansfield. She married Wayne Watson on March 4, 1958 and the couple celebrated their 50 year anniversary before his death in 2009. She earned both a Bachelors degree in education and an MBA at Midwestern State University. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She loved directing the One Act Play in UIL competition for Knox City High School, and was sponsor for many UIL events. She was the sponsor for the KCHS cheerleader squad and pep club for many years before her retirement after 33 years of service as a teacher to the district. She was dedicated to the success of her students and always encouraged them to do their best. She exemplified her teaching goals by her willingness to serve others, as a wife, mother, teacher, and role model.
Renella is survived by her daughter, Gerri Kristen Carnohan and husband Chris of Abilene; grandson, Austin Krause of Houston; brother, Weldon Mansfield and wife Ruth of Amarillo; niece, Zoe Doan and husband Paul of Amarillo; and nephew, Lyndol Mansfield and wife Barbara of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Watson; and nephew, Bentley Mansfield.
