Reuel Sloan Huston

Reuel Sloan Huston, 74, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, peacefully with his family by his side to be with the Lord. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Throckmorton, Texas with Rev. Peter Parker officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Throckmorton cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Thursday evening, October 1, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 107 N Austin, Throckmorton, Texas.
Reuel was born on November 16, 1940 to Florence (Parrott) Huston and Robert Orval Huston of Throckmorton, Texas. Reuel was raised in Throckmorton out in the country. He graduated from Throckmorton High School and continued his education at Texas Tech in Lubbock. He began training horses in college and developed a passion for horses that never ended.
When he married his high school sweetheart, Lavonne Glenn, he worked in Wichita Falls at the city tax office, but was always thinking of training and owning horses. After he and Lavonne married they left Wichita and moved to Lubbock to continue his career as a Trainer. In 1967, they moved to Amarillo to work for the American Quarter Horse Association where he continued for 10 years traveling to different race tracks across the United States as an Inspector. In 1977, they returned to Throckmorton to help with the family business. He moved to Kentucky in 1997 where they raised and raced quarter horses and thoroughbreds. Due to health problems, they kept one horse and moved back to Throckmorton where he spent time with friends and family.
Reuel is preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Orval Huston.
He is survived by his wife, Lavonne Huston of Throckmorton, Texas; two children, Melissa Cramer of Throckmorton, Texas, and Rob Huston and wife Peggy Huston of Lexington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Brandon Lee Cramer, Brady Huston Cramer, Kalin Arin Huston, Kyndsie Addison Huston, and Karsten Amber Huston; two brothers, Raymond Cecil Huston and his wife Rae Jeanne Huston of Plano, Texas and Rex Milton Huston of Throckmorton, Texas; and two nephews, Justin Huston and Cody Huston and his wife Mandy Huston.
