Ricarda Alsides, age 95, passed away May 27, 2026, at her home in Abilene, Texas surrounded by loved ones.
She was born February 2, 1931, in Marathon, Texas. Born to Raquel and Gorgonio Catano. She leaves behind a sister (Rebecca Ortega) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ricarda was married to her loving husband Manuel Alsides. They were together for over 60 years. Together they were blessed with 6 boys and 5 girls. Sons are Albert, Tony (Carmen), John (Julie), Joe (Sally), Daniel (Caren), and Frank (Serena) Alsides. Daughters are Hope Alsides, Leo (Robert) Villarreal, Elida (Joe) Villarreal, Nina (Albert) Leija, and Tina (Johnny) Torrez. She has numerous grandchildren and great (great) grandchildren that she loved.
Ricarda enjoyed music especially Vicente Fernandez. She loved going to garage sales, shopping, especially for shoes. She loved watching Spanish Novelas, western classics, Elvis, and Chuck Norris.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Manuel Alsides and son, Albert Alsides, granddaughter, Danielle Torrez, and son-in-law Johnny Torrez.
Ricarda was loved and respected by her children and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Monday, June 1, 2026, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Knox City, Texas. Father Sandeep Lakra will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at the O’Brien cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A rosary and visitation is planned from 6:00 to 7:00pm, Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the funeral home, 210 Ave. A, Knox City, Texas.
