Robert Allen Whorton, Sr., 80, a longtime resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation services were under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.
Robert was born April 20, 1940 in Rule, TX to Bessie Allene (Allen) and Elbert "E.B." Benjamin Whorton. He married Andrea (Baird) on July 3, 1965 in Rule and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Robert grew up in Haskell, lived all over, and later returned to Haskell. He loved collecting and repairing old things. He had a soft heart and enjoyed being around everybody. He was quick to laugh, and beyond generous. He'd go out of his way to help you if he liked you, and sometimes even if he didn't, even when you didn't want him to. Robert was a feisty old guy, but was as tender-hearted as they come and a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Whorton of Haskell; son, Robert Whorton, Jr and wife Kristi of Rule; daughter, Emily Harwood of Dallas; granddaughter, Trinity Allene Whorton of Rule; three grandsons, Atticus Michael Harwood of Dallas, Robert Whorton, III and wife Brittany of Ft. Worth, Johnathan Troy Marrs of Cleburne; 2 great granddaughters, Aria and Ella; 2 brothers, Elbert Benjamin Whorton, Jr of Eagle Lake, TX, Jack A. Whorton of Rule; sister, Mary Kate Morris of Abilene; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
