Roy Nugent Martindale

Roy Nugent Martindale, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his home following an illness. Roy was born in Haskell County and grew up in the Paint Creek Community. Roy was born the middle child of Eugene and Lummie Martindale's five children. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00AM November 29,2021, at Trinity Cemetery, Big Spring, TX., under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

After serving as a medic in the Navy during World War II, Roy went to work for AT&T climbing poles and stringing phone lines in the Stanton, Texas area where he met his first wife, Nora Ellen Carr, of 61 years. Roy worked for AT&T for 35 years before he retired. They lived in Big Spring, Amarillo, Abilene and Fort Worth, Texas in his years with AT&T. Ellen proceeded Roy in death in 2011. After retirement, Roy and Ellen moved to the Haskell, Stamford and Paint Creek area until he could no longer support his wife's Alzheimer's.

At age 85, Roy met the second love of his life at church camp in Madill, Oklahoma. He and Frances Jones Huddleston Martindale married August 25, 2012. While living in Haskell, they have enjoyed amazing adventures and extensive traveling over the 9 years of their marriage. Expanding his family has brought him immense joy.

Roy has been involved in the church and many ways of serving others through the years. The reoccurring theme in each chapter of his life has been his love for the Lord, as well as his love for family and friends that have walked with him through the journey of life.

Roy is survived by his wife, Frances Martindale, daughter Shirley Garner, son Kenneth Martindale, daughter Darla and her husband Rodney Young, daughter Kimber Huddleston, and daughter Shawna and her husband Tom Larson. Grandchildren include Michael Garner, Stephen Garner, William Pierce, Mattie Pace, Miles Taylor, Emily Taylor, Hunter Larson, Jarod Larson, Brynn Young, and Sam Young. He has one great-grandchild, Oliver Ellis; as well as lots of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Eugene and Lummie Martindale; Siblings, Warren Lewell Martindale, David Finley Martindale, Joyce Irene Martindale Sims, Patsy Laverne Martindale Hartline; First wife – Nora Ellen Carr Martindale; and daughter – Nancy Janice Martindale.
