Ruben "Ben" Vasquez

Ruben "Ben" Vasquez, 64, a longtime resident of Knox City, TX, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Abundant Life Church, Knox City with Rev. Tex Cox officiating. Burial will follow services at the Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018, at the funeral home, 210 Ave A., Knox City, TX.

Ruben was born July 21, 1954 in Knox Co., to Corina (Del Toro) and Victor Vasquez. He married Mary (Espinoza) on November 15, 1975 in Rhineland, TX. Ruben owned and operated V&V Oilfield Company for many years, and later worked for S. B. Street Inc. in Graham. He attended Promise Keepers twice. He was ordained as Deacon into the Catholic Church in 2003, and later began attending Abundant Life Church in Knox City. Ruben loved fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was widely known in the community as "Deacon Ben" or "Uncle Ben".

He is survived by his wife, Mary Vasquez of Knox City; father, Victor Vasquez of Knox City; 30 God Children; three brothers, Joe Vasquez and wife Debbie of Ft. Worth, Ricky Vasquez and wife Diane, and James Vasquez and wife Faby both of Knox City; three sisters, Sylvia V. Espinoza and husband Johnny of Knox City, Mary V. Aguirre and husband Ramon of Abilene, and Norma L. Jones and husband Alex of Wylie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother Corina Vasquez; and two brothers, Victor Vasquez, Jr., and Roberto "Bobby" Vasquez.
