Ruth Marie Williams

November 25, 1925 — August 26, 2013

Ruth Marie (Epley) Williams died peacefully at a local care home August 26, 2013 after having a heart attack on July 18, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Rochester Cemetery in Rochester with Mr. John Greeson officiating. A private family visitation is planned for Wednesday. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

The last of 10 children, Ruth Marie (Epley) Williams was born at home on November 25, 1925 to John Emory and Rhoda Lavenia (Allen) Epley in the Jud Community of Haskell County, Texas. She attended schools in Jud and Rochester.

On January 16, 1943, Pastor A.L. Shaw married Ruth Epley and Herbert Bennet Williams at the First Baptist Church in Rochester. Ruth worked with her husband farming during their 70 plus years of marriage. She enjoyed cooking, especially her famous fired pies, apricot and pineapple for her family and friends, crocheting, fishing, wolf, hunting with their hounds, looking at the crops during growing season, helping with the harvest, helping load wild hogs, and visiting with family and friends whenever possible. Ruth enjoyed sports, especially softball, volleyball, golf, and bowling. She was known by many different names including Seatus, Momma, Nanny and Aunt Bruce.


She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Rhoda Epley; 5 brothers, Buford, Lloyd, Theodore, Johnny, Marshall; 3 sisters, Lillie Webb, Georgia Beal Sherley, and Jewel Flournoy.

Ruth is survived by her husband Herbert of Rule; daughter, Cinda Flanary and husband Gene of Sagerton; granddaughter, Jina Flanary and spouse-to-be, Cody Corbin of Rule; grandson, Russell Flanary and wife Heather of Rule; great-grandson, Doug Easterling and wife Jenny of Rule; 2 great-granddaughters Crystal Casey and husband Mike and Taylor Flanary all of Rule; 4 great-great granddaughters, Kacie, Molli, and Tilar Eastering of Rule and Katelyn Casey also of Rule; 2 great-great grandsons, Miles Easterling and Jake Casey both of Rule; her sister, Frances (Chunky) Harrell Chumrey of Hale Center, Texas. Also surviving, are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
