Sherry Gene Thomas

Sherry Gene Thomas, 81, of Haskell, TX, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Fluvanna Cemetery, 14190 County Road 2204, Fluvanna, TX, with Rev. Billy White officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the funeral home, 304 N 2nd Street, Haskell, TX.

Sherry was born September 9, 1942, in Paris, TX. She was the only child of Peggy Townsend and James Gibson. Sherry wore many hats in her lifetime, daughter, niece, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and recently great-great grandmother. Most of her life she was a wife and mother. Later she worked in customer service and for a while she drove a truck.

Sherry loved to travel and would often go on short trips across the United States. At first with her 5 children in tow and later with her beloved Aunt Pat. She also loved making quilts for her family and she was an amazing fashion artist having won art contests in school.

She loved roses and once had a rose garden with 23 different colors and variety.

Sherry's favorite way of showing love was to cook for her family. She would always make sure to have each family members favorite dish or dessert when they visited.

Sherry was married three times, James "Gaylon" Uselton, Howard "Chuck" Gunter, and Alvin Thomas. All preceded her in death. She lost her oldest son James Uselton in 1991 and her middle daughter Gina Uselton in 2022.

She is survived by her children, Teresa Uselton, John Gunter, and Peggy Hyer; her son-in-law, Wayne Hyer; five grand daughters, Michelle Uselton Lenard and husband Len E. Lenard, Audrea Mata, DeJon Uselton Bybee, Shelby Cruz and Danielle Hyer; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
