Solano Garza Fernandez, Sr.

Solano Garza Fernandez, Sr., 56, of Abilene, Texas passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church in Haskell, Texas with Rev. Vicente Tamez officiating. Interment will take place immediately following at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Monday evening, October 28 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 304 N. 2nd Street in Haskell.
One of 13 children, Solano was born March 22, 1957 in Rock Spring, Texas to Juanita (Garza) and Lorenzo D. Fernandez. He lived most of his live in Goree, Texas and later moved to Abilene. He married Rosemary Nava on October 12, 1975 at the First Baptist Church in Munday, Texas.
Solano enjoyed woodworking and loved sports and coaching sports, mechanic work, but most of all, his wife and 3 beloved children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Juanita Fernandez; 1 brother; 2 sisters; and his mother and father-in-law.
Solano is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rosemary of Abilene; 2 sons, Solano G. (Jay) Fernandez, Jr. of Abilene, Mason Savage of Merkel; daughter, Kayla Cruz of Abilene; 4 brothers, Larry Fernandez, Joe Fernandez, Tony Fernandez, Feliz Fernandez; 5 sisters, Gregoria Tamez, Mary Guzman, Florinda Lopez, Melissa Fernandez, Vickie De La Cruz; 1 grandchild, Zade Joice Fernandez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Fernandez are Rudy Jacuques, James Acosta, Logan Escamilla, Robert Andrade, Jordan Andrade, Roman De La Cruz, Michael Casillas, Mason Savage, and Marcus Hernandez.
