Stephen Dean "Poppy" Lake

Stephen Dean "Poppy" Lake, 55, of Elbert, TX, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m., Monday, August 19, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Throckmorton with Rev. Therrol Dubois officiating. Burial will follow services at Elbert Cemetery, Elbert under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the funeral home, 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton, TX.

Stephen was born April 5, 1964 in Amarillo, Texas, to Nelda (Vaughn) and Elvin "Sonny" Scroggins. He married Sondria (West) on June 16, 2017 in Throckmorton. Stephen was a wonderful cook. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and learning history.

He is survived by his wife, Sondria Lake of Elbert; stepdaughter, Whitney Clayton and boyfriend Dakota Jackson of Olney; stepson, Dillon Kellar and girlfriend Keelie Gonzales of Graham; 2 granddaughters, McKinley Clayton, and Hadley Jackson both of Olney; 1 grandson on the way; parents, Nelda and Joe Lake of Bryson; father-in-law, Andrew West and wife Barbara of Olney; three brothers, Joe Lake and wife Janine of White Settlement, Wade Lake and wife Susan, and Jimmy Lake and wife Kristi both of Bryson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Elvis "Sonny" Scroggins.
