Terry Joe Mathis

Terry Joe Mathis, 69, a lifelong resident of Rule, TX, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m., Monday, December 10, 2018 at Rule Cemetery, Rule, TX with Mr. Brig Thompson officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 6:00-8:00p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the funeral home, 304 N. 2nd St., Haskell, TX.

Terry was born April 16, 1949 in Haskell, TX., to Gladys (Terry) and Joe Mathis. He married Carolyn Greenwood on June 6, 1969 in Rochester. Terry Joe owned and operated Mathis & Sons Inc. Prior to 1980, he was a farmer and rancher. Terry Joe loved to work, play, and hunt. He also loved to drag race. Before closing he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rule.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mathis of Rule; son, Joey Wayne Mathis and wife Elaina of Rule; daughter, Christy Diane Teichelman and husband Greg of Lawn; and grandchildren, Cody Reece, Dax Teichelman, Cory Joe Mathis, and Jake Teichelman.

He is preceded in death by his mother Gladys Mathis; father, Joe Mathis; brother, Larry Don Mathis; and mother and father-in-law, Zeta Mae and William Greenwood.
