Tommy Ray Foster (86), life time Haskell County resident, passed away Sunday, September 07, 2014. He was born at the family home in the Gaunt Community on January 8, 1928 to Nathan F. and Cynthia "Sally" Lees Foster. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, at Willow Cemetery with Rev. Kelly Pickett presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home.
Tommy Ray graduated from Haskell High School in 1945 and attended North Texas Ag College (now University of Texas at Arlington). He married Mayme Kathryn Harrell March 13, 1948.
A true "man of the soil," Tommy Ray started farming with his dad when he was four years old. In addition to farming and ranching, he built, owned, and operated the Haskell Livestock Auction which opened in 1963.
Tommy Ray was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Albert James "Cotton" Foster.
Surviving Tommy Ray are his wife, son Randy and wife Judy of Haskell, daughter Barbara Harris and husband Gary of Clyde, granddaughter Reena Ruster and husband Cole of Abilene, grandson Bradlee Harris and wife Julie of Enid, Oklahoma, great-granddaughter Mia Kathryn Ruster of Abilene, and sister Willie Faye Graves of Amarillo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
