Truett Lee Kuenstler, long time resident of Paint Creek - Haskell, Texas passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas at the age of 88. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Paint Creek Baptist Church in Paint Creek - Haskell, Texas with Rev. Steve Russell and Rev. Tony Grand officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Tuesday evening, October 13, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located 304 N 2nd, Haskell, Texas.

Truett was born on November 14, 1926, in Stamford, Texas, to Louie Lee Kuenstler and Callie Mae (Middlebrook) Kuenstler. He graduated from Paint Creek High School, Hardin Simmons University, and Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. Truett married Laverne Dean on May 16, 1947. He served 11 years as Chaplain at Hendrick Medical Center, and long time member of the Lions Club and Farm Bureau. He served as a minister in several churches such as Roberts Baptist Church in Haskell County, Texas; Roane Baptist Church in Roane, Texas; First Baptist Church in Claytonville, Texas; First Baptist Church in Jayton, Texas; and First Baptist Church in Rochester, Texas. He was honored as Pastor Emeritus at the First Baptist Church, Rochester, Texas on September 21, 2014. Truett enjoyed reading and visiting with the family, yard work and keeping his cars meticulously clean.

He was a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church in Haskell, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Lee Kuenstler and Callie Mae (Middlebrook) Kuenstler; sister, Mary Lou Sandefur; and niece, Debbie George.

Truett is survived by his wife, Laverne Kuenstler of Paint Creek, Texas; two daughters, Nanette Ashby and husband David of Vernon, Texas, and Leann Ellis and husband Randy of Azle, Texas; three grandchildren, Allison Davis and husband Mike of Flower Mound, Texas, Kirk Ashby and wife Chelsea of Princeton, Texas, and Lanie Pile and husband Aaron of Converse, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Colton Davis, and Ruby Lee Pile; brother, Roddy Kuenstler of Stamford, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
