Vennie (V.L.) Adkins

Vennie (V. L.) Adkins, 93, a longtime resident of Sweetwater, TX, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Rule Cemetery, Rule, TX, with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rule.
Vennie was born August 8, 1923, in Haskell, TX, to Maude (Purvis) Adkins and Vennie Lonzo Adkins, Sr. He grew up in Rochester and later resided in Sweetwater. He was a farmer, worked for El Paso Natural Gas, and enjoyed running heavy equipment. He later owned his own cedar dozing company.
He is survived by two sons, Don Adkins and wife Connie of Sweetwater, and Bob Adkins and wife Penny of Sweetwater; daughter, Brenda Michaud and husband Pete of Brownwood; seven grandchildren, Allen Adkins, Dawn Mayes, Bobby Adkins, Andrea Adkins, Shawnda Allenbaum, Kim Graham, and Carolyn Loewrigkeit; 15 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and special newphew, Mark Adkins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Maude and Vennie Adkins, Sr; wife, Vivian (Hester) Adkins; son, Vennie Joe Adkins; and two brothers, Tommy Adkins, and Robert Adkins.
