Vera Hise Smith, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. Mrs. Smith was 94. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Haskell. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Vera was born August 11, 1920, to Walter Lee and Sara Mae (Kile) Hise, in Montague, Texas. She was one of the first graduates from Paint Creek High School in 1939. On December 23, 1939, Vera married Vergil Smith in Rule, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2005 and they were married for 65 years.
She was Paint Creek's Homecoming Queen in 2013. Vera taught sunday school at various churches, while following Vergil's ministry including Calvary Baptist Church of Haskell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Sara Hise and her husband of 65 years, Vergil Smith.
Vera is survived by her son, Michael Smith and wife Jane of Abilene, Texas; granddaughter, Misty Mann and husband Jim or Amarillo, Texas and her great-grandson, Alex Mann of Amarillo, Texas.
