Verlean Ann Adkins, 94, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Haskell, Texas with Rev. Dusty Garison officiating. Burial will follow services at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at the funeral home, 304 N 2nd Street, Haskell, Texas.
Verlean was born September 11, 1929 in the Mattson Community, Texas to Annie (Nauert) and Herbert Klose. She grew up on a farm in the Mattson Community and attended Mattson High School. She married Wayne Adkins on January 8, 1948 in Haskell, Texas, after he returned from the Army following WWII service. Both were members of Trinity Luthern Church in Haskell, Texas. She was very active in the Lutheran Church.
She loved time with her family and friends, vacations in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and also playing bridge, dominos, and card games. She enjoyed farm life and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until retirement. She also loved to go shopping in any mall.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Mayfield and husband Gary of Haskell, Texas; son, Kelly Don Adkins and wife LaDonna of Canyon, Texas; sister, Ruby Lee Medford of Munday, Texas; granddaughters, Casey Marin and husband Pat of Houston, Texas, Annie Welch and husband Garrett of Lubbock, Texas; grandsons, Cole Adkins and wife Christy of Humble, Texas, Jay Mayfield and wife Natalie of Carthage, Texas, Stacy Mayfield and wife Kelly of Giddings, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Adkins; parents, Herbert and Annie Klose; sister, Carolyn Moore; brother-in-law, Maynard Moore; brother, Wilbert Klose; sister-in-law, Dwanna Klose; brother-in-law, Jack Medford.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Verlean's name to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Haskell, Texas.
