Violet LaVern Mayfield, 93, of Weinert, passed away Tuesday evening, September 11, 2012 at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Weinert with Bro. Dan Bullock officiating. Burial will immediate follow at Weinert Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Prior to the service, the Mayfield Family will be welcoming friends at the church.
Violet LaVern Guess was born August 14, 1919 in the Mattson Community, Texas to Emily Belle Weaver and Rebus B. Guess. The middle child with 10 siblings, LaVern grew up in Mattson before attending Abilene Christian University and North Texas State University.
On August 29, 1943, LaVern and John Alec Mayfield were married in Mattson Baptist Church. They were blessed with 3 children - Arch Ragan, Evelyn LaVern, and Alexia Wyn - and enjoyed a long and happy marriage.
LaVern was a faithful member of Weinert Baptist Church. She was also a member of Matrons' Club, the Weinert Extension Homemaker's Club, and Weinert Baptist Women's Missionary Union.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Alec Mayfield; her 6 sisters, R.B. Guess, Mabel Derr, Otie Bell Mayfield, Rita Hughes, Jeannie Brown, Lavera Hummel; and 2 brothers, Bailey Guess, and Bob Guess.
LaVern is survived by her son, Arch Mayfield and his wife, Edy Lou of Planiview, Texas; 2 daughters, Evelyn Mayfield of Garland, Texas and Alexia Rimmer and husband Duane of Rockwall, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Adrienne Rimmer of Washington, D.C., Elyse Rimmer of Plano, Texas, and Meredith Rimmer of Waco, Texas; 2 brothers, Rebus Guess and wife Leora of Haskell, and Lindo Guess of Weinert; and sister-in-law, Mary Sue Henry of Haskell. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
