VONNIA ELMORE

Vonnia Elmore passed away on August 18, 2026, in Knox City, Texas, at the age of 69. She was born on February 22, 1957, to A.B. “Burton” Elmore and Mozetta Feemster Elmore in Knox City. Although she was named Vonnia Elizabeth Elmore at birth, all family and friends knew her as Vonnia Beth Elmore beginning in her childhood. She was proud to be named after both of her grandmothers.

Vonnia lived most of her life in O’Brien and Knox City. She attended school in these communities, in addition to Gilliam. She also attended a Job Corps Nurse Aide training in Oklahoma. She frequently worked with and helped her Grandmother Feemster in her store in Knox City. Vonnia was a member of the Knox City Methodist Church and participated in the Methodist Women and enjoyed helping with the Annual Bazaar when she was able.

Vonnia enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, in person and by phone, and she had several pen pals that she communicated with for years. Lana has been her pen pal since 1990, developing a close best friend’s relationship of 36 years.

She was introduced to ranch life during her father’s work which influenced her love of all animals, birds and plants. Her hobbies included reading many types of books and using her imagination to write numerous short stories on various topics such as westerns, science fiction and Native American history, of great interest to her because the mother of her Grandmother Feemster and her Great-Grandmother Sally Jane “Light Feather” was a full-blood Cherokee Indian.

Vonnia was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents D. T. and Vonnia Elmore of O’Brien and Edward and Ara Elizabeth Feemster of Knox City, her aunts and uncles and numerous cousins. She is survived by her Elmore and Feemster cousins, treasured friends and Ladybug, her cat and beloved companion.

Vonnia was cremated and a memorial graveside service and interment of the urn next to her parents will be held at the Knox City Cemetery for family and friends on a future date to be determined.
