Wade Matthews

Thomas "Wade" Matthews, 61, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00am at Willow Cemetery with Rev. Rick Moeller officiating under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.

Wade was born August 2, 1963 in Haskell, Texas to Sandra (Matthews) Huggins and Tommy Matthews. He loved frisbee dog competitions, playing his guitar, fossils, art, kayaking, classic cars, and was very artistic. He went to Western Texas College in Synder, Texas. He moved to Tampa, Florida where he lived from 1989 to 2021.  While in Tampa he worked at the resort Coquina Key, St. Pete Beach, Florida. Later specializing in orthopedic braces and artificial limbs. He also worked as a cobbler for Disney World Characters.

He is survived by his forever love, Molly (Grimes) Moore; uncle, Sonny Matthews and wife Martha; aunt, Jan Matthews Alexander; cousins, Pam Opitz and husband Ron, Cam King and husband Wade, Jim Alexander, David Matthews and wife Cecelia, and Nikki Alexander.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Huggins; father and mother, Tommy and Nancy Matthews; grandparents, Mack and Delma Matthews; brother, Scott Fields; aunt, Dwanna Matthews Klose; cousin, Bobby Matthews.

He will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Special thanks to his neighbors Michael and Jan Brady for their friendship.
