Wallace Eugene "W.E." Wooten, 89, a long time resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Hendrick Hospital, Abilene. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2016, at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Wallace was born June 28, 1927 in Idabel, OK, to Alma Rachel (Ballard) Wooten-Collins and Orville Euing "Babe" Wooten. He married Rubye Marie (Rainey) May 29, 1948 in Haskell. He attended Haskell High School before joining the Merchant Marines. He owned and operated Wooten Oil Company and the Muffler Shop. He was a World Champion Trap Shooter, President of the Trap Shooting Association of Texas, and was in the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame. He enjoyed farming, especially his locally loved tomato. He and his wife also enjoyed growing flowers in their local nursery.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Annette Wooten of Stamford and Katie June Nemir of Haskell; grandson, William Walton B. Cruz of Haskell; and granddaughter, Hannah Gretchen Jordan of Abilene.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife; step-father, Walton Cleveland "Red" Collins; brother, Don Walton Collins; son, Walton Eugene Wooten; and son-in-law Andrew Kipling "Kip" Nemir.
