Walter Warner Bredthauer, 88, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Friday evening, June 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, 304 North Second Street in Haskell.
Walter was born October 23, 1927, in Caldwell, Texas to Clements Charles Bredthauer and Emma Margaret (Heldman) Bredthauer. He served as a deacon at the Trinity Lutheran Church, was a past President of the Weinert School Board, but most of all he loved farming.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clements and Emma Bredthauer; wife, Alene Bredthauer; daughter, Walene Bredthauer; three brothers, Alvin, Ernest and Alfred Bredthauer; and two sisters, Adela Neirdick and Lenora Kokemore.
Walter is survived by his two sons, Brian Bredthauer and wife Deborah of Angel Fire, New Mexico and Bennie Bredthauer and wife Vickie of Haskell, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin Hansz and wife Lindsay of Stephenville, Texas, Clay Bredthauer and Kyle Compton both of Stephenville, Texas, Ross Compton of Lewisville, Texas, and Koby Compton of Haskell, Texas; two great-grandsons, J. Hansz and Brazos Hansz; one sister, Irene Bortz and husband Awald of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
