Wanda Sue Rodgers Williams

October 18, 1933 — January 3, 2021

Wanda Sue Laquey was born to Clarence and Lennie Laquey on October 18, 1933, in South Bend, Texas. She passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021, in Abilene, Texas. Sue was 87 years old. A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Throckmorton Cemetery, with Mr. Greg Melton officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the funeral home, 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton, Texas.

Wanda Sue married Kenneth Austin Rodgers on January 31, 1954. They were devoted to the Lord and each other and happily married for over 60 years. To this union were born four children: Kliff Austin Rodgers, Debra Lue Rodgers Timmons, Nancy Lynn Rodgers Hamilton, and Bobby Keith Rodgers.

Kenneth and Sue were proud of their family and their family's growth. Added to 4 children are 2 daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, 25 grandchildren, 16 grandchildren-in-law, and 39 great-grandchildren with another birth expected in February 2021.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lennie Laquey; her husband, Kenneth Rodgers; granddaughter, Amy Newhouse; and sister, Dottie Rogers. Sue married Jack Williams in March of 2016, and they enjoyed 4 years together.

Sue attended elementary school in Fort Worth and Breckenridge. Her family moved to Graham, Texas when she was in Junior High and she graduated from Graham High School. She attended Hardin Simmons in Abilene, Texas. Before marrying Kenneth, Sue was a soda jerk and was a telephone and keyboard operator. Sue operated a day care/preschool for a while, worked in Pirtle's Jewelry Store, sewed for the public, and was employed by Throckmorton Independent School District as an instructional aide for many years.

Sue was dedicated to our Lord, and she had a servants heart always. She was a great cook and she and Kenneth loved to share meals with anyone who happened to be at the house. Until the very end of Sue's being at home, she would always offer a drink of water or tea and something to eat to anyone visiting. Sue had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing games. She was a Bible Class and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years — in fact just a few weeks ago, when her mind was so affected by Alzheimer's Disease, she was still thinking she needed to prepare Bible lessons and make sure her Bible class kids had the best visuals and materials available to them so they could learn of Jesus.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Williams of Ponder, Texas; her children, Kliff and wife Sally of Little Elm, Texas; Debbie and husband, Curtis Timmons of Throckmorton; Nancy and husband Darryl Hamilton of Austin, Texas; Bob and wife Elizabeth of Zachary, Louisiana; her host of grandchildren their spouses, and their children; her great grandchildren; step children, Debbie Stack, Curtis Williams and Charles Williams and their families; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many, many dear friends.
