Wayland Quitman Noles, longtime resident of Throckmorton,Texas passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the age of 94. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Throckmorton with Rev.Peter Parker officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, June 7 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton.
Wayland was born in Throckmorton on March 14,1921 to Charlie Raymond and Ollie Vane (Hibbitts) Noles. Wayland was a graduate with a B.S. in Petroleum Geology, inducted into the United States Army and served with Army's Tech Sargent in World War II. He loved his family, the mountains and working in the yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ollie (Hibbitts) Noles; his first wife, Modena Raper; second wife, Anna Young; one stepdaughter, Alice Phillips; two grandchildren, Shawna and Casey; and one sister, Wanda Alexander.
Wayland is survived by his two sons, Bruce Noles and wife Gloria of Hagerman, New Mexico and Brent Noles and wife Kelly of Eastland, Texas; one daughter, Melanie and husband Kirby Gober of Throckmorton, Texas; two stepdaughters, Anita Leone and Linda Lahood; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pitsy Broyles; one brother, C.R. Noles, Jr; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
