Wayne Dunnam passed from this earth on Friday morning, April 12, 2013, at his home in Haskell, Texas. Mr. Dunnam was 83. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Haskell with Mr. Phillip Sims officiating. Interment will immediately follow the services at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
One of 11 children, Harold Wayne Dunnam was born May 11, 1929 at home on the family farm near Weinert, Texas to Charley Allen and Fay Tiny (Johnson) Dunnam. He attended school in Weinert and was an outstanding athlete. He participated in basketball, softball, and track and Wayne held the state record for fastest man to run the 100 yard dash for many years. Following high school, Wayne enlisted into the United States Army and served our country during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany during his 4 year commission with the Army.
Wayne returned home to once again farm with his father, but the drought forced him to look elsewhere. He married Eva Yvonne Adkins on her birthday, December 13, 1952, in Haskell and the two soon moved to Abilene where Wayne began his career with West Texas Utilities. He remained with WTU and in Abilene until his retirement. Wayne and Eva moved back to Haskell and made it their home. Eva sadly passed away October 22, 2012.
Along with Eva, Wayne is preceded in death by he and Eva's only son, James Wayne (Jim) Dunnam; his parents, Charley and Fay Dunnam; 3 brothers, Bill Dunnam, Cliff Dunnam, and J.B. Dunnam; 3 sisters, Lena May (Dunnam) Dendy, Audrey( Dunnam) Sturdy, and Martha (Dunnam) Breeden.
He is survived by 2 brothers, Charles Alfon Dunnam of Vernon, Texas and his wife Darlene and Raymond Everett Dunnam of Friendswood, Texas and his wife Barbara; 2 sisters, Ella Opal Dunnam and Wanda Faye (Dunnam) Ham and her husband Wayne, all of Haskell.
Wayne's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
