Weldon Skiles

September 18, 1933 — May 31, 2014

Weldon Skiles, longtime resident of Knox City, Texas passed away late Saturday evening, May 31, 2014, at Haskell Healthcare in Haskell. Mr. Skiles was 80. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Knox City with Revs. Jimmy Rogers and Ronnie Lambert officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Weldon and his twin brother, Willard, were born September 18, 1933, in Caney, Oklahoma to Zelma (Samples) and Ulrich Skiles. He attended Weinert schools and entered the U.S. Army on July 21, 1954. PFC Skiles served at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and was honorably discharged June 22, 1956. Five days later, on June 27, 1956, he married Estelle Jenkins in Forestville, Maryland.

Weldon and Estelle soon moved back to Knox City where Weldon and his twin brother owned and operated Skiles Brothers Service Station. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and coaching baseball. Weldon was known for his famous red beans that he loved to share with his family while spending time together. He was a wonderful man that will be missed not only by his family, but many wonderful friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ulrich and Zelma Skiles; brothers, Lester Roy Skiles and Harold Skiles; and his twin brother, Willard.

Weldon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estelle of Knox City; 2 sons, Donny Skiles and wife Sharla of Haskell, and Greg Skiles of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Thane and friend, John Slovensky of Odessa, Texas; granddaughter, Kimberly Skiles of Abilene, Texas; grandsons, Aaron Skiles of Haskell, Texas and Jeremy Conway of Knox City, Texas; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Skiles of Abilene, Texas. In addition, Weldon is survived by his 3 sisters, Joyce Harmon of Hurst, Texas, Peggy Flores of Cisco, Texas, and Linda Freiman and husband Ron of Baird, Texas; 2 brothers Jimmy Skiles and wife Judy of Potosi, Texas and Larry Skiles and wife Amy of Cisco, Texas; sister-in-law, Bettye Skiles of Knox City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be given in Weldon's name to the First Baptist Church of Knox City at 200 S. Central Avenue, Knox City, Texas 79529.
