Wilbur Wayne Bruton, 88, was born into this world on March 24, 1935, and went home September 7, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Throckmorton Cemetery with Rev. Jesse Edwards officiating under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton.
Wayne was born and raised in Throckmorton, Texas and was grew up on the Bruton farm that once belonged to his Grandaddy, George Calock Bruton, then purchased by his own father, Elbert C. Bruton.
After graduating from Throckmorton High School, Wayne majored in History and Business at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and remained a die hard Baylor fan all of his long life.
Not long after he graduated from Baylor University, Wayne was one of a very small percentage of college grads drafted into the Army. Wayne served primarily in Alaska from 1958 – 1960. The Army spotted what a sharp guy they had in their corner. So, while there, he was assigned to an intelligence unit. He recently commented that was a mistake because: "It was hard for me to keep my mouth shut."
After receiving his Honorable Discharge, Wayne became a Master Tool Maker at General Dynamics, LTV and Lockheed Martin. He didn't retire until he was in his 70's.
Wayne became a lifetime 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. He was a proud supporter of the Shriner's Hospital that did many services, free of charge, for sick children and their families. Wayne was a generous soul.
Anyone who knew Wayne could see his large love for family, friends and his beloved pets. His eyes would light up when seeing those he loved. He really enjoyed discussing sports, politics, telling old stories and saying things that would make us laugh.
Wayne made us laugh while alive and made us cry when he left us to go home.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Clifton Bruton; his mother, Nellie Mae Bruton; His older siblings, William Clifton Bruton , Carl Bruton and Philo Odessa Bowen; brother in law, Garland Bowen; sister in law, Leola Bruton; great nephew, Titus Carter, plus many others in the family. He loved us all. Wayne will be sorely missed.
