William Paul Verden

William Paul Verden, 83, of Haskell, TX, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Springlake with Bro. Glenn Harlin officiating. Burial will follow at Earth Cemetery, Earth under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018, at the funeral home, 304 N. 2nd St., Haskell, TX.

William was born December 22, 1934, to Sibyl (McGee) and Glen Verden. He married Evelyn (Jones) on July 19, 1958 in Silverton. William was an Elementary School Teacher and Principal. He taught in Silverton for 10 years, and Springlake Earth for 32 years and loved all of it; he always said "like a goose he woke up to a new world everyday". Aside from teaching he also did entomology in the summer. He taught Sunday School; 8 year olds in Silverton, and both young adults and adults in Springlake Earth. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing games.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Jones) Verden of Haskell; two daughters, Debbie Wilson and husband Jimmy of Crandall, and Paula Wilcox and husband Jackie of Haskell; son, Russell Verden and wife Kayla of Celina; brother, James (Rudy) Verden; sister, Sandy Pitcock; seven grandchildren, Sarah Wilson, Erin Pierce and husband Josh of Forney, Keith Wilcox and wife Shelby of Haskell, Kayce Furr and husband Chance of Waco, Maci, Maddox and McCoy Verden of Celina; one great grandchild, William Trent Wilcox of Haskell and one on the way, Baby Furr.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sibyl Verden; father, Glen Verden; and two sisters, Susie Hignight, and Jo Brown.
