Zera Alene Collins Schmidt, 93, a former resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at Willow Cemetery, Haskell with Mr. Philip Sims officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned from 6:00-8:00p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the funeral home, 304 N. 2nd St., Haskell, TX.
Zera was born November 1, 1924 in Comanche Co., to Sarah Elizabeth (Barnes) and Walter Wilson Trice. She married Dale Rainey on July 25, 1952 in Stamford, TX. Zera lost her first husband, Dale at a young age. She later married Marvin Collins until he passed away in 1987. She then married Milton Schmidt, and they were together until his death in 2010. Zera loved going to the Lady Longhorns basketball games, and being outdoors. She was the Haskell County Auditor for 19 years.
She is survived by her nephew, Gary Dugger and wife Lesha of Seminole, TX; great nephew, Chad Dugger and wife Kaci of Shallowwater, TX, and their two children, Ann Elizabeth and Ryan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Walter Trice; two brothers, Erskine Trice, and W.B. Trice; four sisters, Verna House, Hazel Trice, Gertie Bailey, and Annie Dugger; and one niece, Kara Janelle Dugger.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials can be given in Zera's name to Haskell Church of Christ, or the Haskell Co. Experienced Citizens Center.
